sustainable style spotlight: krish puri

Krish Puri is a talented copywriter at a Shoreditch digital agency, whose quick wit and playful sense of style are a reflection of her London upbringing. She brings together a combination of sporty and romantic style, making for a combo that’s as sweet and colourful as a bag of Pick ‘n’ Mix.

Melo: Tell me about what you’re wearing today.

Krish: I am wearing a vintage Blitz & Remix shirt dress — which I’d picked up from a vintage store, obviously in Brick Lane — and I’m also wearing some Vagabond grunge ankle boots, and I teamed that with a metallic silver Forever21 jacket. And to vanish it off, I’m wearing my vintage “amour” hoops. Gold hoops as well. And a shitload of rings from H&M.

Melo: How would you describe your style?

Krish: I think I’m definitely experimental. You’ll often see me wearing a lot of sportswear, whether it’s Adidas sweatshirts, a pair of Barbie tracksuits, or a puffer jacket. I also like to go a little bit girly — I wear lots of florals as well. I love tea dresses and vintage cocktail dresses as well. I kind of have a mixture of both [sporty and feminine]. It depends on what day of the week it is and what the weather’s like, but I do like to mix it up.

Melo: Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you have any style icons?

Krish: I try to read a lot of magazines—I might pick up a copy of Dazed & Confused and just see what kind of street style is going on. This might sound a bit poncey, but I think we’re quite lucky to work in East London. There’s a lot of people in the streets walking around [which give me style inspiration].

[In terms of an icon,] I like the way Lily Allen dresses. She’s very London! Puffer jackets and hoops, but then she also has lots of bright colours, and a playful sense of style.

Melo: What makes you feel the best when you wear it and why?

Krish: I feel really good in a fitted jumpsuit or in a fitted dress. Ya know, the ones that accentuate my assets, but also are flattering at the same time. The dresses and jumpsuits that I wear are never one block colour—they’ve always got some kind of funky print on them or some kind of embellishment. That’s usually what I feel best in. If I team that with a cool pair of earrings and a funky rucksack, then I’m good to go.

Melo: What do you look for when shopping, in terms of sustainability and ethics?

Krish: I definitely say I’m getting more into that kind of movement, let’s say, because you see these awful horror stories all the time, and it makes you think again before you buy. I have to admit, I’m a huge fan of Topshop, but it does kind of bother me that this shit has been going on. I’ve actually started buying some pieces from H&M’s organic range, and I’ve even participated in their recycling programme. I swapped a bag! I try to [shop sustainably] where I can, it’s not easy and I’m not going to the extremes, but maybe that is something I can do for the future.
